- Employer completes Section 2, recording the document details and certification.
- Reverification may be required in Section 3 if an employee’s work authorization expires.
- Employer keeps the I-9 on file (not filed with USCIS) for a set retention period.
Time: Section 1 must be completed by the employee no later than the first day of work. Section 2 must be completed by the employer within 3 business days of the employee’s start date.
